Slacker, here. Who should I vote for for ALA Council? Other offices?

in addition to Rochelle, of course - mehlib - - (Edit | Remove)

i would vote for henry mensch as a councillor-at-large, as well as rochelle (who is so awesome i don't think it needs explained to this group). besides being a lsw member he is one of my favorite people from my cohort. and in far less selfish terms, he is smart, dedicated, creative, and hella experienced in IT before bringing his passion for helping to the library world. as a plus for YOU, mehlib, he has a biomedical background :D. - Marianne - - (Edit | Remove)

so, I'm realizing, if I send this to the LSW feed, I don't think it goes to my other friends. or does it? all my friends are libraryfolk thus far here - mehlib - - (Edit | Remove)

I just now got in...every time I tried to sign up previously, the site was down. The discourse forums seem like more work to stay caught up in, but if most people are there... It's very bad for my time management attempts to be looking in more than one place for LSW! - fitzm - - (Edit | Remove)

Aha! You want to make sure that it's going to "il mio feed", not just, say, LSW? It looks to me like if you just post, it goes to your feed by default. If you pick a room, it goes just to that by default, but you can have it go to both by selecting both? Maybe?
10 years ago - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
Yeah, you have to enter your own feed if you want it to go to both. This confused me at first. - John B. - - (Edit | Remove)

anyway if no recipient is specified it goes to your feed ("mio feed" is "My feed" as said above) - if you're specifying a different recipient (room or user) the default feed is disabled, and you should re-enable it. - bezdomnyj82 from Android - - (Edit | Remove)

SAM to Library Society of the World
We have an awesome client trying to find service volunteers to fill a library need in Costa Rica. http://www.islonline.org/... They usually fill their teams with college kids, but I thought librarians might be interested in participating on this one. Any ideas on how they could get this shared to librarian peeps quickly and effectively? I could probably swing them some scholarship funds if they are interested.

I'll just hide this casual comment here: Reading Twitter stream, encountered a new Outsell report on OA. $100 a page--for each reader, that is. Clearly, I've been in the wrong game. (But, of course, Outsell has Sekrit Sources thus providing Authoritative Info.)

They had a report on OA last year (or 2?) that was about $1,295 or some such. One could find the pdf of it that someone posed for free on the Internet. - Joe from iPad - - (Edit | Remove)

Have put in so many hours editing this committee report, am beginning to think that it would have been less time-consuming to just write the damn thing myself.

*sips tea* Yup. At least in school I could usually get everyone to do what I wanted. Too low on the totem pole for that in this committee. - Kirsten - - (Edit | Remove)

I just helped the most adorably Type-A student try to shrink down engineering homework solution pages into the allowable one-page "cheat sheet" for an exam. We didn't manage to get them readable at the size that she needed, but we had fun anyway. - Catherine Pellegrino - - (Edit | Remove)

[cross posting in all the LSW places] - We presently do not have an official policy regarding which e-resources do or do not go on our e-resource A-Z list.
10 years ago - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
However, my general practice has been to add databases (A&I and full text), links to purchased primary text collections, and platform links to dynamic and large collections such as journals where new content is consistently added. When it comes to e-book platform links, like EBL, Ebrary, EBSCO as well as things like Cambridge Companions, they too are added because they are dynamic and/or large (over 100 titles). - Galadriel - - (Edit | Remove)

hey Stephen - I'd love to try out the site, but I've tried 3 times now (the first 2 a couple of days ago) to get it to send me the email verification link (so I can register / start logging in) and have yet to receive the email. Is this place going to be a permanent? Or at least a Candidate to consider? I feel like having this place dilutes focus.
10 years ago - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
I was thinking about that this morning. We need a place that is good enough. While we only have 44 subscribers, we will most likely loose some LSWers in the transition no matter where we go. Unless something better comes along or gets built, I think this place is good enough for me. Now, if the LSW room languishes over time, then I will probably migrate my conversation someplace else. - Joe - - (Edit | Remove)

Anyone done a study where you went thru Faculty citations and counted % that are not available via library resources? Maybe kinda like http://libraryconnect.els... but not just for grant proposals. I guess % using library resources will fall through the years?
10 years ago - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
I haven't seen such a study, probably because it's still so time-intensive to get an accurate list of faculty publications. It'd be cool and probably eye-opening, though. - Ondatra iSkoolicus - - (Edit | Remove)
