The amount of explaining I've had to do about the Confederate/Rebel Flag over the last 24 hours has been exhausting. I realize the American education system has kind of failed us over the years, but how is it that I managed to get through junior high and high school and know all this shit and these people didn't pick up on anything at all?

This week, I learned about some of the insane misinformation Confederate defenders come up with. Like "the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in Rebel states, not Union ones, so how committed were they to abolition?" Which is persuasive if you don't spend a moment to learn Lincoln did it with his war powers and thus couldn't just abolish it in the non-rebel states by executive order. - Andrew C - - (Edit | Remove)

Hooray, wedding is over! Brother and his new wife are on their way to Italy right now for their honeymoon and I have a lot of leftover beer, a new haircut, and some amazing memories to keep with me always. I am filled with gratitude for the wonderful people I have in my life, both family and friends. <3

Also, apparently I am the master at reading the shit out of 1 Corinthians 13. (that's first book of Corinthians, chapter 13, for those who may be confused) I have not stopped receiving compliments on my reading since the ceremony Saturday afternoon. Apparently I made people cry and whatnot. Like happy cry. Not sad cry. Person calls my cell. I don't answer. They leave a voice mail. Then within two minutes, they text me asking the same question they asked in the voice mail. Because they feel they're just so damn important, they need my attention NOW NOW NOW. Shit like this is why I sometimes seriously contemplate getting rid of my cell phone entirely.

I've started using the Do Not Disturb a bit more often, with a couple of people set to get through if they call a second time, because for that small group, I know that it is serious if they try a second time. - Jennifer D. - - (Edit | Remove)

Five days until Tough Mudder Tahoe. This time last year, I was bordering on terrified due to having been abandoned by all my teammates. This year I'm pumped up beyond belief and can't wait for the rest of the week to be over with so I can get up on that mountain and kick some ass. :D One day I'm going to successfully persuade one of y'all to join me. Trust. :D

A few months ago I sang the praises of my brother's and his fiancée's wedding registry because everything was incredibly sensible and reasonable in price. Today I go in to see what's left and if I need to help fill in gaps in purchasing, and I discover they've added bedding to their registry. The kind that's $185 FOR EACH SHEET. Well there goes my high praise.

I took a major step today and reached out to a friend I haven't spoken to in over three years when we parted ways in a very unfriendly manner. While I was not 100% at fault for what happened, I am taking 100% of the blame in the hopes of mending fences. Fingers crossed that this turns out well...

I'm pretty sure that's exactly what they're thinking at this point, and in reality they were about 80% at fault so me shouldering the full blame is pretty damn generous. The way they behaved was astonishing and incredibly childish and my fault is that instead of just calling it out when it happened, I swept their bullshit under the carpet and moved on. - Hookuh Tinypants - - (Edit | Remove)

I made savory protein bars and kimchi and Mexican Indian tribal masks and danced around a campfire and ate grilled PB&J sandwiches under the trees with ice cold on-tap kombucha and met a cute boy named Aardwolf and led everyone in an impromptu synchronized dance routine to "Uptown Funk" at the camp dance, and...it was just wonderful and I wish every weekend could be like that. <3 - Hookuh Tinypants - - (Edit | Remove)

The downside is that I'm the only mentor. O.O So this will be interesting. But I'm fine with that. We have a new campaign manager and apparently she's awesome as fuck, and that will make all the difference in the world. The old campaign manager was a huge part of the problem we were having before. Apparently the coaches told the new manager that they wanted to handpick their own staff, so it's nice to know I was handpicked. LOL It will be interesting to see how it works being a mentor for one team and a participant for another team. :) - Hookuh Tinypants - - (Edit | Remove)

Had tickets to see Train tonight at the kickoff of their latest tour. First time seeing them in concert! Well my dear friend Poppy, who's flying in from SoCal to see them with me (and tomorrow we head off to Camp Grounded)...her flight is now delayed to a time where we'll miss the concert. :( Weirdly, I'm not super upset about missing the concert. I'm more upset that the tickets will be wasted because it's too last minute to be able to give them away to someone else. Boo.

Today's winner: someone sending me a link to a floor-length cowl-necked dress at Chico's. Because Old Ladies.

The "Well you were wearing X outfit so you have to expect Y treatment" argument is so damn old, it has both mold AND a beard. Why is this still an acceptable response to someone who is unhappy about receiving unwanted attention? Nobody deserves anything simply because of the way they look.

Mentioned to one of the trainers last week that their new boss seemed to be checking me out a lot, always around or near me, etc. and we wondered if he was into me or something. Today the trainer came up to me and said "I subtly worked you into a conversation this morning. Turns out Trinh just thinks you're really weird and is kind of fascinated by you in a circus sideshow kind of way." Well. OK then. :D

Listening to my brother's fiancée talk about how next year is his 30th birthday and she wants to start planning a surprise party for him...made me realize how angry and hurt I actually am that nobody did anything for my 40th birthday. I thought I was OK, but listening to that yesterday, I found myself feeling resentful and hurt and...angry.
10 years ago - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
And I think what makes me angry is that I've planned so many parties for people over the years. So many parties. So many surprises. And I don't do it for any reason other than to make people happy because who doesn't love having their friends and family shower them with love and attention on their birthdays or for baby showers or for huge accomplishments? But when it comes to me...nobody does anything. There is no planning. There's no surprises. I have never been surprised by anything in my whole life. Nobody deserves to go through life without at least one surprise. - Hookuh Tinypants - - (Edit | Remove)

I totally feel you on this. It gets emotionally exhausting to always be the planner/support staff and then just wait for some kind of sign that people care about your existence beyond your skills at planning (oh, am I projecting here?) I have to admit that I'm still disappointed that none of my family did anything (or remembered beyond Facebook notifications) for my 30th birthday (or my other birthdays). *hug* - joey - - (Edit | Remove)

I always thought the military was all about getting up at unrealistic hours of the day and staying up until the sun went down. However, living a mile from a military base, I get to hear Reveille and Taps played at the start and the finish of the day and I can assure you that they don't give a shit about when the sun comes up or goes down. Reveille is 7am, Taps is 4:30pm. Clearly there's a lunch break and two 15's included in there. o.O

So very true. Typically workday was 7:30 to 4:30 with an hour for lunch. However, in Afghanistan my day was 7am to 7pm or, more typically, 9pm. (Some of that was just lack of alternative activity.) When I was in Miami, the workday was shorter. 8am to 3pm including a lunch was typical. Basically, if your work was done, you went home. - CAJ - - (Edit | Remove)

Ugh, "2 Broke Girls" keeps inexplicably getting renewed year after year despite being some of the worst acting and writing I've ever seen in a sitcom, yet "Forever" gets canceled. TV is truly garbage.

OK, I'll say it. This whole "Can't wear white to a wedding" thing sucks hairy balls, especially since most of the dresses I'm finding that are flattering to my body shape are all some variation of white/crème. I'm going to eventually give up and just show up in jeans and a mumu top.

I'd say go ahead and wear white, but make sure you do enough accenting in a different color to not be mistaken as the bride by anyone at any point in the day, especially by those that don't know the bride well enough to know what she looks like, especially at any venue where the bride may show up in white (but not her wedding gown), . Because that could be stealing attention away from her, which is the reason why they say you shouldn't wear white. Another bit of advice would be to not accessorize in whatever color her bridesmaids will be wearing. Oh, and it's always ok to wear a print in which the main color is white, like a pastel floral print on a white background. - April Russo - - (Edit | Remove)

It also really sucks not being included in any part of my own brother's wedding. I genuinely try not to let it bother me but it does, very much so. But it's not like I can do anything about it, so I just kind of keep it to myself. Except when I'm whining about it here, of course. :)

He came out with it about...8 years ago?...but he only sold it through his website for the longest time, though I hear you can find it at certain Whole Foods stores. The best thing about it is the nifty tin it comes in, which I've used for all sorts of thing in the kitchen over the years. The coffee itself just tastes like dirty stale ass.
