Spent some quality time today deactivating accounts for the librarian whose last day was yesterday. It's an odd feeling going through and cleaning up and shutting down the equivalent of someone's digital office.

Might anyone have an example they could share of a rubric for grading annotated bibliographies or citation exercises? We're working on creating some for the year-long thesis project our Honors students do, and are attempting to crowdsource a bit of inspiration.

Facing down a summer that's too full of disruption and major things, my co-worker and I made the sad but wise decision to table writing an article together. Sigh.

{Cross Posted at All the LSW Spots} Hi Folks - I'm seeking your collective wisdom and feedback on a glossary of terms for e-journal subscriptions because I know that with more input and eyes it will be better :-). We're gearing up for an extensive e-resource evaluation in part because of significant budget cuts but also because we should be systematically reviewing our e-resource subscriptions. Part of this process will include training workshops for subject librarians...

...and other non e-resources staff on e-journal package renewals; however, an initial needs assessment indicated that we needed to start with establishing a shared understanding of terms. Thus, this glossary. I would greatly appreciate your comments, questions, and ideas for additional terms! - Galadriel - - (Edit | Remove)

BBC forgotten list 'sets precedent' http://www.bbc.com/news/t... List of BBC web pages which have been removed from Google's search results http://www.bbc.co.uk/blog...

“The links were removed as part of the "right to be forgotten" ruling put in place by the European court. It allows individuals to request certain links do not show up when a person searches their name. The BBC published a full list of [BBC] stories that had been removed so far. It would continue to do so, said David Jordan, head of editorial policy. "It's impossible to have a meaningful debate if you've not got an idea about what's being de-listed," he said. […] "It doesn't make [the stories] more findable for anybody looking for a name," he said. "What it does is give a sense of and a flavour of what kind of material is being delisted. That's important." […] The European Union Court of Justice ruled last year that search engine links to "irrelevant" and outdated data about a person should be erased on request. It only affects searches made by users in the European Union.” [From second link: “One caveat: when looking through this list it is worth noting that we are not told who has requested the delisting, and we should not leap to conclusions as to who is responsible. The request may not have come from the obvious subject of a story.”] - bentley - - (Edit | Remove)

I was helping a guy in the adult services department this afternoon. We had scanned a document to a flash drive and then attached the document to an email. He then wanted to look at the document on the drive to check what he had just sent. I don't think he realized the file folder could open up as tile images, since he very quickly minimized the folder as porn images popped into view.

J's school let out for the summer yesterday, and my husband is out of town, so I brought him to the library today and put him to work annotating the "list of periodicals indexed" in one of our old print indexes, based on a master list of our library's holdings. Why pay a student worker to do this when you can get a 7-year-old to do it for free?
