An ideal Mother's Day would include free childcare in an educational interactive setting. And perhaps a maid.

what strikes me about all the pictures out of Bmore (which is, incidentally, ~20 minutes from my house) is how you can identify all the participants - those looting, throwing rocks, squirting lighter fluid.... and actually, I'm vaguely familiar with some of the neighborhoods involved.

so sad because I think this all takes away from the real message, and because bmore needs to spend money on building, not repairing this mess - Christina Pikas - - (Edit | Remove)
and all the tweets about people trying to get their children home from school - no school buses in bmore, the kids all ride city buses, which were shut down. - Christina Pikas - - (Edit | Remove)

Feel much better now :) I'll cite her for sure. And she reminded me of a citation I have in RefWorks but haven't actually cited yet. Too bad she didn't cite me :( - Christina Pikas - - (Edit | Remove)

tale from imposter syndrome (in response to another thread): was laughingly telling a co-worker that this project team I'm on that's doing work for a government sponsor listed me as their information retrieval subject matter expert. co-worker was like: um, because you are a subject matter expert on information retrieval? :)

I've never heard of a company pushing out releases right in the middle of the east coast working day... that's weird #refworks ... I guess that explains weirdness earlier.... of course IEEE used to have outages mid-day on working days but they've fixed that.

DTIC is coordinating the DoD's response to the OSTP open access memo (good)... but apparently they're getting a lot of pushback from the labs and elsewhere in DoD RDT&E about the "burden"... sigh.

I am that problem patron children's librarians bitch about. Hangs head. Went in 20 min to closing and my children managed to pull all the board books out and throw them on the floor. There were a lot. The more I tried to stop one baby the faster the other one went. It was like sorcerers apprentice mixed with the Tasmanian devil. Sorry.

My kids let drop that I work at the University library as a librarian and I didn't know it. So when the circ folks offered to waive my fine (and I declined the waiver and paid my 35 dollars) they laughed and tools me it was professional courtesy. I grinned and replied my goal was to double the acquisitions budget. :) - Christina Pikas - - (Edit | Remove)

Anyone know about "Journal of Small Satellites"? afaict not in DOAJ. Publisher site (Deepak Publishing) looks a bit, um, incomplete? BUT there's a good article by a reputable researcher there. Oh, and the site is down right now.

ffs. Gartner just dropped "linear regression" from its hype cycle this year. and they still have R on there. Just because the media has finally heard these words doesn't mean they're new or that they are magic.
