Researchers used a new technique that is 10 times faster than standard MRI scanners to illustrate how the hundreds of muscles in our neck, jaw, tongue, and lips work together to make sound.
The sound of the voice is created in the larynx, located in the neck. When we sing or speak, the vocal folds - the two small pieces of tissue - come together and, as air passes over them, they vibrate, which produces sound.

Many of us have only a vague recollection, if any, of what it was like to type with a real mechanical typewriter: the tactile clicky sounds, the concentration, and the vintage feel. This memory no longer has to be nostalgic, because now you can buy a typewriter-like keypad that connects to your PC or tablet through USB.
This vintage-style modern keyboard, called Qwerkywriter, was created by game developer Brian Min, who is financing the production through a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. It has 84 chrome-accented round keycaps and an integrated stand for tablets, a perfect tool for people who would love to feel like writers from the past.

Plans to go out of town on a road trip to Charlestion, SC for the weekend ended up being cancelled(recheduled?). However since I had already put in the request for time off, I'm having a staycation! :) I think we'll wander into DC for a fancy dinner on Saturday but for the most part, it's Doctor Who, comic books and whatever else tickles my fancy for a bit. :)
Since I know you don't want to miss any exciting bit of news, I got my hairs cut yesterday after going back to Home Depot for yet another style of light bulbs.

Yeah, TLDs don't mean anything anymore, do they? After all, I registered a ".wtf" domain name for one of my development sites a few weeks ago (yes, WTF is now an available TLD).

Just a few hours of hands on use of frenf.it and I'm very impressed. Notice the icons next to comments? If you're following that person, the microphone is yellow. Otherwise it's gray. And if it's your comment? It's a filled-in yellow. EDIT: Apparently, I've totally missed the fact that the icon is a smaller version of the logo, a mustard bottle. :D
Another genius option: frenfBooks and the ability to send part of a user's feed into one (and out of Home) while leaving the rest!

Had a fun lunch date with about a dozen or more folks that I used to work with before I moved to Miami. Apparently, after nearly seven years some things change (like everyone scattered to new areas) while some things don't (still an awesome bunch of folks). While I'm not on course to head back into the building or the Intelligence Community...
...it was nice to see all the familiar faces and do some catching up.

The most amusing part was how people didn't immediately recognize me since I was no longer in uniform and have significantly longer hair. One person mentioned they realized who I was after hearing my voice. The "lightbulb" moments in people's eyes was awesome. Especially since the reaction was a happy smile and warm embrace in most cases.
