"You could use an ax for logging, sure. A crosscut saw was faster, if you had a lumbercat to work each end. And of course a chainsaw or feller buncher could chop down a table leg quicker than you could hiss — but Mackinaw wasn’t trying to do it quick. He wanted to feel the grain split beneath his paw. He used his claws." - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)

Reductress » Moisturizing Techniques That Might Finally Convince Your Jerk Cat To Sit On Your Lap (http://reductress.com/pos... http://reductress.com/wp-... )

"Exfoliate before lotioning up. A weekly exfoliation will remove dull particles from your epidermis and buff your skin back into good condition. Removal of dirt, oil buildup, and dead cells will leave your skin feeling baby soft, and make your legs look like an enticing place for your heartless cat to finally spend some fucking time." - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)
"A steam-filled room after your shower will help to settle the moisturizing product into your skin while your pores are still open, and your cat may enjoy the warm room and may attempt to join you. Moist skin is more receptive to emollients than dry skin, just like a different cat is more receptive to touch than your own cat. This practice should provide faster results for you and your relationship with your cold-hearted dipshit of a pet." - JustDuckie - - (Edit | Remove)

"Polly Sartori, head of 19th century European paintings for Sotheby's in New York, said Kahler had traveled to the West Coast of the United States in 1881 and he encountered art collector Kate Johnson in San Francisco. "He was invited to her cat ranch. Now, Mrs. Johnson actually was very wealthy. She was a millionaire and she had this giant mansion. Some newspapers report that she had 350 [cats]. So Carl Kahler meets Mrs. Johnson at the ranch, at the mansion, and she asks him if he would paint a portrait of her cats," Sartori told CBC News. "So, for three years he spends time with the cats in the mansion doing sketches. And then in and around 1893, he does their portrait. He takes all of the sketches and he puts together this monumental-sized giant painting of 42 of her cats."" - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)

Standing on their own four feet: Why cats are more independent than dogs -- ScienceDaily (http://www.sciencedaily.c... http://images.sciencedail... )

"Domestic cats do not generally see their owners as a focus of safety and security in the same way that dogs do, according to new research." - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)
I thought it was because pet dogs have been bred to retain certain juvenile traits that working dogs (and wolves, etc.) outgrow in adulthood. (See also the silver fox domestication experiment: "The domesticated silver fox (marketed as the Siberian fox) is a domesticated form of the silver morph of the red fox. As a result of selective breeding, the new foxes became tamer and more dog-like. [...] The experiment was initiated by scientists who were interested in the topic of domestication and the process by which wolves became tame domesticated dogs. They saw some retention of juvenile traits by adult dogs, both morphological ones, such as skulls that were unusually broad for their length, and behavioral ones, such as whining, barking, and submission." https://en.wikipedia.org/... - bentley - - (Edit | Remove)

Creative Man Builds a Feline Feeding Machine That Requires His Cat to Hunt for His Dinner (http://laughingsquid.com/... http://i1.wp.com/laughing... )

"So instead of feeding my cat, I hide these balls around the house… This all started after I read an explanation of why cats go about repeatedly exploring the same areas: it’s partly to establish and survey their territory, but they’re also practicing ‘mobile’ hunting: moving about, being curious, and poking their noses around in the hopes of upsetting potential prey and finding a meal. So what if my cat, while out on patrol, actually found its prey? Surely this would bring him one step closer towards a more fulfilled and self-actualized indoor kitty existence." - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)

At CatCon, Breaking a Stereotype in Ears and Whiskers - NYTimes.com (http://www.nytimes.com/20... http://static01.nyt.com/i... http://static01.nyt.com/i... )

"They arrived wearing whiskers and ears. They purred over new litter fragrances, and pawed through the cat clothes. Hissing? Well, the line was long for that keynote speech: “Photographing Cats — It Looks Easy, but It’s Not.” Debunking the cat lady myth, it turns out, is easier said than done. This was the first CatCon, billed as a celebration of the stylish side of cat fancying. More than 10,000 people crowded into a downtown convention hall here over the weekend to shop for cat-centric merchandise (for people, mostly), have their pictures taken with celebrity Internet cats (such as Lil Bub, famous for her dwarfism), and attend cat-focused panels and speeches (“Goodbye Dowdy, Hello Gorgeous: Debunking the Cat Lady Myth”). There were also “caticure” stations, where Aveda technicians gave visitors manicures and decorated fingernails with cat stickers." - JustDuckie from Bookmarklet - - (Edit | Remove)

"“The problem with cat birthdays is that you never really know who the guest of honor is, so I just love this,” said Jeanne Boukidis, a browsing attendee. Ms. Boukidis said she sometimes puts clothes on her cats, Jazzy and Harvey. “It’s kind of like a living Build-A-Bear,” she added, referring to the personalized teddy bear shops. “I might be back for that party hat,” she shouted over her shoulder. Like Ms. Boukidis, a lot of visitors did not seem particularly worried if they came across as cat ladies, crazy or otherwise. “I wear my crazy cat lady badge proudly,” said Pat Preston, who flew in from Fredericksburg, Va., to attend the event. Ms. Preston did not have an actual badge. But she was wearing novelty cat glasses complete with ears and dangling plastic whiskers. Any Los Angeles event worth its salt has celebrities. So Mayim Bialik, the actress known for “The Big Bang Theory” and “Blossom,” was on hand on Saturday to encourage cat adoption through PetSmart Charities. She had read her CatCon script. “This event is a great opportunity to change the face of the crazy cat lady,” Ms. Bialik said. “It’s still one of those stereotypes that needs to be demolished. We’ve come a long way, but we have a long way to go.”" - JustDuckie - - (Edit | Remove)
