Bad mommy. I admit to letting my kids sit under the table while I fed them their meals like you slip a dog scraps. Sometimes I think they make stuff up on the daycare paperwork and there was no nap
Ah but I'm gonna have to turn it off and feed the kids befor the biggies skate. I do like Tara and Johnny much better than evening folks

we don't have a special sports package but I think it might be digital deluxe or something like that? when we first got cable - to get fast internet - it was in the package. We really need to drop or downgrade now because we hardly ever use it.

I think Shani realizes it's not the suit... or at least, not only the suit. Wonder what this brouhaha is doing to Under Armor's sales

"A controversial bill referred to as the “Secret Science Reform Act of 2014” (H.R. 4021) was introduced by Republicans on the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee this week. The stated purpose of the legislation is to increase Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) transparency of the merits of scientific studies that underpin the agency’s regulations.
The House Subcommittee on Environment held a hearing titled, “Ensuring Open Science at EPA,” to examine options to improve transparency and reproducibility of science leading to regulatory decisions and to receive testimony on the “Secret Science Reform Act of 2014.” Republicans argued that the bill aims to “prohibit the EPA from proposing regulations based upon science that is not transparent or not reproducible.” Although Democratic committee members voiced interest in improving transparency and public access to federally funded research at the EPA, they conveyed fear that the proposed bill could actually prohibit EPA from increasing transparency. Ranking Member Suzanne Bonamici [D-OR] expressed concern that the bill would prevent the EPA from using the best available science to advise its regulatory actions, stating that “under this proposal, if for any reason all of the scientific and technical information associated with [peer-reviewed articles] was not publicly available, EPA would have to proceed as if those studies did not exist.” In addition, Committee Democrats were not sure if the bill would apply retroactively. If that were to be the case, then the “legislation would essentially nullify all the progress [the Committee has] made to date to improve” environmental related public health concerns. Bonamici further outlined potential negative effects that the bill could have on the scientific community, stating that “researchers and organizations may be hesitant to conduct EPA-funded research if they are required to disclose protected information like health records.” Letters from medical associations, environmental organizations, and concerned scientists have been sent to the Committee leadership asking to oppose the legislation and were entered into the official record. More information on this hearing is available here."

It could also be used to kill library subscriptions if the argument is that they can only take OA results into account when developing regulations.

Does anyone have suggestions for strategies to find state laws or regulations relating to how employers have to treat their employees' personally identifiable information? All I keep finding are things about like credit card companies dealing with customers and then health things. TIA

Yeah. My brother and his wife determined that it was no more expensive, with their twins, to have a full-time nanny for the first few years. Plus the girls didn't bring home all the bugs from day care (though once they started preschool at ~3, I think, they brought sickness home then).

yeah, that's the basic difference: KU wants the money up front to publish at all, whereas unglue.it is going after stuff that's already published.

Its a consortium arrangement so institutions subscribe to a package of books to cover the costs of production from a range of publishers. Total price is set up front so institutions have an interest in growing the program contributors. Its clever and seemed to work for a first round. Maybe something in this for journals in AHSS as well.

songwriters make it sound like it's fun to be up all night. i think it's fun to sleep all night in my comfortable bed in a dark room to the peaceful sounds of my kids snoring on the monitor. sadly, while i was prepared for that type of night, neither baby thought it was a good idea.

it's just amazing to me that two spacecraft built by MPOW and launched in 1977 are still doing good science and the PI is still writing papers for Nature and Science. There's a colloquium on Friday if anyone's local (Maryland btwn balto and dc) and interested in Voyager 1 and 2.
All freaking night. Both have been asleep now since about 6:30 but I have to get them up for church
