The Bay Area’s new professional soccer team has a name: the San Francisco Deltas. The self-billed “soccer startup” Bay Area Pro Soccer announced the name via social media on Sunday morning before organizing a march with the team’s supporters outside Super Bowl City and along Market Street in San Francisco. The Deltas are expected to start play in 2017 in the NASL, the North American Soccer League, which is the second division of soccer in the United States. They would be the first west coast team for the league, which is also rumored to be expanding to Orange County or San Diego. The self-billed “soccer startup,” plans to have technology play a large role for the team, including using AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology to allow dynamic seating for the team’s home games. The team has not announced what stadium it will call home, but with “SF” featuring prominently in the logo it is believed the team prefers to play in the city of San Francisco. - vicster - - (Edit | Remove)

On Tuesday Sports Illustrated's Grant Wahl reported the Timbers transferred Jorge Villafana to Santos Laguna in Liga MX for a high-six-figure transfer fee. Although a source within the Timbers reports the deal is not yet formalized, it likely will be soon and announced shortly thereafter. Although the Timbers have been reluctant to part with Villafana, Santos ultimately presented an offer that the Timbers could not refuse in the best interest of either Villafana or the club. With several complicated salary-cap considerations already playing into the Timbers’ 2016 season, the allocation money that Portland stands to receive in exchange for Villafana is necessary to keep much of the Timbers’ Cup-winning side together. - vicster - - (Edit | Remove)
Well I'm pretty bummed about that, though it looks like it's the best thing for Villafana and the Timbers. :-/ - vicster - - (Edit | Remove)
