Shot over a period of 18 months, Italian photographer Gabriele Galimberti‘s project Toy Stories compiles photos of children from around the world with their prized possesions—their toys. Galimberti explores the universality of being a kid amidst the diversity of the countless corners of the world, saying, “at their age, they are pretty all much the same; they just want to play.”

(acquedotto alessandrino)

HAMILTON: 'Cause I said, you have to kill me first. I will not be raped. Of course, I never thought what I would do if, you know, I was in a position and I couldn't budge. I'd just pray to die. Dear Father, just take me. Take me on to heaven. Don't let me be raped. But, I mean, I really meant it, you know. You have to kill me first.
DOMONOSKE: She was beaten repeatedly.
(SOUNDBITE OF ARCHIVED RECORDING)
HAMILTON: That was the jail cell where they threw me on the elevator and ran the elevator up and down and beat me on the elevator. Yeah. They threw up and down. They'd say, scream, scream, you know. So - you know, nobody can hear you, Scream, scream. And just out of sheer meanness, spite, I wouldn't scream. I wouldn't scream. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction. I didn't scream at all.

BRACEY: I don't think I realized the significance of it, and I wish I could get that back. To me, it wasn't a fair trade, not just for me but for the time that I had with those kids for stupid things like going to buy the food together; you know, just time together that we didn't have.

Gov. Paul LePage has long been a staunch opponent of Medicaid expansion. The Maine Legislature has passed bills to expand the insurance program five times since 2013, but the governor has vetoed each one. That track record prompted Robyn Merrill, co-chair of the coalition Mainers for Health Care, to take the matter directly to voters on Tuesday. https://media.npr.org/ass...
KATHLEEN PHELPS: Finally, finally, finally - maybe now people like myself can get the health care we need. I will have oxygen back in my home and I'll sleep good at night.

Monk, who was born 100 years ago today, was also one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. The late pianist wrote about 70 songs during his career — many of which have became standards, including the most recorded jazz composition of all time, "'Round Midnight." http://media.npr.org/asse... http://www.npr.org/2017/1...
That white woman was the Baroness Pannonica de Koenigswarter. She was a member of the Rothschild family and a jazz enthusiast. She became Monk's muse and his patron, giving him money, driving him to gigs and letting him rehearse and record at her home.

Indonesia's founding philosophy includes the notions of unity and social justice for all. But there are growing concerns that the country is becoming less tolerant than it once was.

The Swedish furniture giant has had enough. In April 2015, a Beijing Ikea store introduced a new regulation, banning people from sleeping on furniture displays. But customers did not obey the rules. And Ikea staff members have found it difficult to implement the no-nap policy.
