Name five impressive things about yourself. Don't list anything you are (i.e., I'm a nice guy, I'm honest), but instead things that you do (i.e., I just won a national chess tournament, I make the best chili in Massachusetts). Question from http://www.cracked.com/blog...

The funny thing is that while that article is certainly useful in terms of realizing what "the world" wants of you, I think it really short changes the importance of those inner qualities. For instance, itegrity is an internal quality and something that is sadly scarcer these days, IMO. But anyway... (1) I've foiled two attempted bike thefts, one time grabbing the perp and attempting to hold him until the cops could arrive, the other time scaring him away and reuniting the owner with their bike. (2) I saved someone from choking (although in my panic I forgot to use the Heimlich maneuver so I'm lucky my save didn't make it worse). (3) I sang with the Cheap Suit Serenaders. (4) I've ridden most of the CA coastline by bicycle. - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)

"That life - whatever else it is - is short. That fate is cruel but maybe not random. That Nature (meaning Death) always wins but that doesn’t mean we have to bow and grovel to it. That maybe even if we’re not always so glad to be here, it’s our task to immerse ourselves anyway: wade straight through it, right through the cesspool, while keeping...

"Only here's what I really, really want someone to explain to me. What if one happens to be possessed of a heart that can't be trusted--? What if the heart, for its own unfathomable reasons, leads one willfully and in a cloud of unspeakable radiance away from health, domesticity, civic responsibility and strong social connections ...

... and all the blandly-held common virtues and instead straight towards a beautiful flare of ruin, self-immolation, disaster? Is Kitsey right? If your deepest self is singing and coaxing you straight toward the bonfire, is it better to turn away? Stop your ears with wax? Ignore all the perverse glory your heart is screaming at you? Set yourself on the course that will lead you dutifully towards the norm, reasonable hours and regular medical check-ups, stabled relationships and steady career advancements, the New York Times and brunch on Sunday, all with the promise of being somehow a better person? Or -- like Boris -- is it better to throw yourself head first and laughing into the holy rage calling your name." - Goldfinch by Donna Tartt - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)

I treated myself to a pedicure after work & brought along a book to read. As I was getting ready to leave, two of the women that worked there came up to me: "You read a lot. Are you a teacher?" "Yeah, are you a teacher? I've never seen someone read the whole time." 0_o

Each time I travel out of state, it becomes more and more obvious that Houston radio sucks. The majority of the channels are owned by ClearChannel & play top 40. Often multiple channels are playing the same song at the same time. I took my mom to run some errands this afternoon and "Royals" came on. She said, "I'm so sick of this song." We heard ..

.. the song at least 4 more times in 2-3 hours of running errands. The last time my mom (who is one of the most patient and sweetest people you could ever meet) said, "I'm so sick of this damn song! Turn off the radio! Can't they play anything else?" - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)

While in San Diego, I passed the bar where the Top Gun bar scene was filmed. Apparently going in and just taking pictures of the bar is a big thing (and according to Foursquare their food is terrible). Why would you want a picture of that bar? Now ... show me where they shot that volleyball scene ...

My hair is finally long enough to donate to Locks of Love! Now the only dilemma is do I deal with short hair in the winter or wait until spring (which basically means February)?
1 decade ago from Friendfeed - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
This is just me, but I find that short hair is actually hotter because it can't be put in a pony tail. So for me getting rid of it in winter is ideal. - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)

At what age do kids normally start counting and reading?
1 decade ago from Friendfeed - Comment - Hide - - - (Edit | Remove) - More...
Counting: Maybe 2 or 3 (poorly, at that). Reading: 4 - 6, that can depend on if the parents read to the kids and/or if they had early childhood education. - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)
Sophie could count at 2. Now in pre-K (she just turned 4) she is getting better at the alphabet (recognizing letters) but she can't read by herself yet. - Kristin - - (Edit | Remove)
