Revision 0.6, Nov 23rd 2015
Frenf.it is a tool for collecting, sharing and discussing various types of content. You can gather in a single place all of your interests and social networks feeds, like twitter, tumblr, instagram, foursquare and so on.
In Frenf.it you can create public or private themed discussion groups, called rooms, where you can also import content and feeds from other social networks.
You can organize your interests in private collections called FrenfBooks: keeping track of what you want to read has never been easier.
Because a group of crazy people enjoyed spending time on FriendFeed, and they believed that was the social network that most suited their needs. In 2009, FriendFeed was sold to Facebook, and its development has been discontinued. On April 9th, 2015, the service will be closed for good. None of the existing social networks has the qualities that we liked most in FriendFeed, therefore we wanted to develop something that was similar and more modern as well.
Our service is new, and we are just working out the kinks.
Frenf.it is free! Servers and connectivity are offered by MDS Net. There are other additional costs: domain registration, external services and development time. If you would like to contribute even with a small amount of money, please feel free to donate via Paypal
There are two ways:

is writing, but I don't want to read his [twitter|tumblr|instagram|...].With Frenf.it you can choose what to read. Use and configure FrenfBooks to choose what to read from whom. Remember that your homepage is nothing but a special FrenfBook.
A room is a place of discussion and gathering. You can create theme-rooms, fan-pages or anything that comes to your mind.
Click on the top menu, “preferenze” (settings). In the avatar URL
field, insert the web address of the image you want to use. It is not possible to upload images at the moment: they have to be available somewhere on line.
You have to insert in the post the exact URL of the image you want to insert. Usually you can get it by clicking with the mouse right button on the image and choose copy image URL
.
You have to use an external service, such as imgur. Here are some tools that will likely help you:
FrenfBooks are the union of Frenfs and Phonebook, a sort of address book. They are lists of users and rooms. You can create, delete, change names and put what you want in them.
Just click on the title FrenfBooks
on the right-hand side box, and then click on the link Crea un nuovo FrenfBook
(create a new frenfbook).
There are two ways:
Same way for adding users, but this time click on the "rooms" tab (“Stanze”). Here you will see the list of the rooms you have subscribed to.
you can deselect it from “FRENFBOOKS” -> book-name.
Clicking on "FrenfBooks" you have the list of all your own FrenfBooks. Clicking on "Rename" (rinomina) you will be able to rename the FrenfBook. “Elimina" (delete) will delete it.
The name of a FrenfBook in the FRENFBOOKS page is a link. From there, you can see all the users and the rooms linked to that FrenfBook.
It is your home feed. It’s loaded only with feeds present in that list and their FOAF. When you subscribe to a user, all his feeds go into the FrenfBook “Home”. This special FrenfBook can't be removed or renamed.
Go to the preferences menu and click on “Servizi” (services). This page shows has all the services you can import on Frenf.it. To add a new service, click on “Crea nuovo servizio” (create a new service) and choose the service type. If the information is correct, Frenf.it will start to import the service automatically in your feed.
Frenf.it adapts its time window according to how much you write. For example, if you write many tweets per day the update frequency will be high. In other cases, Frenf.it will allow more time between updates. The maximum time between imports will never be more than 2 days. The minimum is 5 minutes.
Sure. From the Preferences page -> “Servizi” (services), click on "Aggiorna" (refresh) next to the service you want to import. In any case you’ll have to wait 5 min between one import and the other.
Twitter and Tumblr, for now. Other services will be added soon!
Here it is: bookmarklet
The RSS feed is published at http://www.frenf.it/earlyadopters/rss/username/
(e.g. http://www.frenf.it/earlyadopters/rss/dracoroboter/
). If you want to export your Frenf.it feed somewhere else, you have to use that URL as a source (rss atom o blog).
Those are the the official Frenf.it testers. When new features are developed, they are initially activated just for testers. In this way, if something breaks, the problem will affect only a small number of people
Being an official frenf.it tester doesn't only mean you'll get a preview of the new features. It means that you're committing to help improving frenf.it, that you will report bugs and problems in the proper way and you won't take advantage at the expense of other users.
If you want to be a tester, you have to follow a few rules:
Check on our bug tracker: usually the issue is already known, and we're already working on it.
If you don't find anything, you can send us a report. We will take care of the issue as soon as possible.
The correct way to report it, is to ensure that a developer can reproduce it, so the more details you add, the better chance to fix it in a short time.
A clean bug report example, could be the following:
TITLE: Problem editing my own comment on a post.
- IN the home page - WHEN I click on the edit link of a comment - THEN I expect to see the text-field with the content of the comment to be edited - BUT nothing happens, and the page scrolls to the top. Additional info: - The problem doesn't occur if I first click on the comment expand link. - Tested on Windows 7, with Mozilla Firefox 33
Remember, being a tester is just a voluntary work, though your efforts are highly appreciated.
If you want to apply for a tester role, please send me an email to frenfit@gmail.com
I will personally evaluate every single request and decide. Anyway, being a tester is not forever. I can revoke the status at any time, without any notice.
We also have a support room on frenf.it for any doubt or question. Bear in mind that te official channel is always the bug tracker.
Try to have a look in the rooms (don't worry, we do speak English). If you can't find what you were looking for you can write a post and ask. If you are wondering "why don’t we have that feature yet", the answer is:
Our service is new, and we are just working out the kinks.
